India's healthcare sector is going to expand rapidly in the coming years. According to the joint report of Praxis Global Alliance and NATHEALTH, the country's healthcare market can reach about $ 700 billion (about Rs 66 lakh crore) by 2030. At present its size in FY26 is estimated at around $300 billion.

Financing system still weak

The report shows that the sector is growing rapidly, but the funding structure is still fragmented and weak. In India, even today, common people have to bear the huge expenses of treatment from their own pockets, which increases the financial burden.

About 44% of the total health expenditure in the country has to be paid out-of-pocket, which is the highest in the world. Also, about 43 crore people are still outside any effective health insurance cover, which makes treatment more expensive.

Major lack of infrastructure

According to the report, there are only 0.9 doctors and 1.6 hospital beds available for every 1,000 people in India. By 2035, the country will need about 10 lakh new doctors and 14.5 lakh additional beds, so that the needs of the growing population and patients can be met.

Investment will provide employment

To strengthen the health sector, an investment of more than $200 billion will be required by 2035. According to the report, every 1 million dollar investment can create 23 to 27 new jobs, which will also increase employment opportunities.

Public-private partnership is necessary

Ameera Shah said that the dream of developed India will be fulfilled only when the health system of the country is strong. For this, the government and private sector will have to work together. Overall, India's health sector is growing rapidly, but to strengthen it, better funding, insurance coverage and large investment in infrastructure are needed.
