Rajnath Singh chaired the meeting of Border Roads Organization, reviewed national security and operational preparedness.

Defense Minister Rajnath Singh on Wednesday chaired the meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Border Roads Organization (BRO). Issues of India’s national security, infrastructure development and operational preparedness were discussed in this meeting. The meeting focused on strengthening defence, operational preparedness and prioritizing security strategic initiatives.

Discussion on strategic aspects

Posting on Twitter, Rajnath Singh said, today chaired the meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on the subject of Border Roads Organisation. In this meeting, deep and detailed discussions were held on the ongoing strategic initiatives to strengthen defence, infrastructure development and operational preparedness.

Review on global and regional security

Earlier, on Tuesday, Rajnath Singh reviewed recent global and regional security incidents and India’s defense preparedness. Apart from top officials of the Indian Army, Air Force and Navy, Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) Chairman Sameer Kamat was also present in this meeting.

Impact of West Asia crisis

The meeting also mentioned the ongoing crisis in West Asia, which is disrupting the trade route through the Strait of Hormuz. Tensions escalated after the assassination of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in military strikes by the US and Israel on February 28. In this retaliation, Iran targeted Israeli and US assets in many Gulf countries. This caused blockage of water routes, which affected international energy markets and global economic stability.

Prime Minister Modi’s warning

Prime Minister Narendra Modi informed the Lok Sabha about the developments in West Asia and its impact on India. Describing it as “worrying”, he said that this crisis is creating economic and national security as well as humanitarian crisis. The Prime Minister also pointed out that the West Asian region provides a major supply of India’s crude oil and gas, and the region also provides an important route for India’s trade with other countries.
