ODI World Cup 2027: After the IPL, Team India and BCCI will focus on the upcoming ODI World Cup. In the past few years, the Indian team has performed extremely well. After losing in the final match of the 2023 World Cup, the Indian team will now be eyeing the 2027 World Cup. Even during IPL 2026, BCCI will be eyeing 20 star players for ODI World Cup 2027. 15 of these players will be given extended opportunities over the next year.

Hence, they will have to perform well in IPL 2026 to make it to the World Cup squad. Currently, three players are competing for two spots in the team. Among these players, the World Cup-winning team seems to be the furthest behind in the race. Team India wants to field two fast bowling all-rounders in the 2027 ODI World Cup squad. The role of spinners and all-rounders is likely to diminish on the pitch in South Africa. So, there is currently competition between three players for two spots.

The race is currently between Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dubey and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Hardik Pandya’s place in the team is considered to be fixed. However, his place in the team is uncertain due to poor fitness. If Pandya remains fully fit, his place in the team will be assured. Meanwhile, Shivam Dubey and Nitish Kumar Reddy will fight for the second seat. Only one of these two players can get a chance.

Currently, Nitish Kumar Reddy seems to be leading in this race. However, their form has raised concerns. If Reddy does not perform well in IPL 2026, his place in the team may be in jeopardy. Shivam Dubey has now joined the race after a good performance in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Dubey has proven himself in batting, but he still has a lot to prove in bowling. So, if he impresses with bowling in IPL 2026, Dubey might get a chance to play in ODI World Cup 2027.
