*Warning: Contains significant spoilers for the finale of Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen*

Netflix's latest horror series, Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen, hints at a major plot twist right from its title - but the exact nature of this impending disaster remains a mystery until the show's gruesome final episode.

In the opening episode, viewers witness groom Nicky Cunningham (Adam DiMarco) and bride Rachel Harkin (Camila Morrone) on their wedding day, followed by a flashforward to a blood-soaked cabin belonging to Nicky's parents, with screams echoing in the background. This dramatic and macabre scene is fully unravelled in the climactic finale.

As the series progresses, it becomes apparent that bride-to-be Rachel is burdened with a longstanding family curse, which dictates she will suffer a painful death if she marries someone who isn't her true soulmate. The origin of the curse is traced back to a bride who, long ago, struck a deal with Death to resurrect her groom following a fatal accident.

Death consented, but stipulated that the groom must be her soulmate, subsequently cursing their offspring with a dilemma: marry their destined soulmate or forfeit their life. However, the curse can be passed onto another lineage if an engaged couple fails to wed by sunset on their wedding day, reports the Mirror.

Upon discovering the curse, Rachel begins doubting whether Nicky is truly her match, even going so far as to contact a departed family member through a Ouija board who miraculously survived her own wedding day to seek advice on how she managed to live. Her deceased relative instructs her to consume a potion that will turn her into the ideal spouse.

Having gathered every component for the concoction - including severing her own toe - she ultimately refuses to drink it, recognising she doesn't wish to alter the person Nicky originally loved.

Standing at the altar, Rachel says 'I do', but Nicky ultimately cannot proceed with the ceremony following a turbulent week. He confesses he feels he forced Rachel into matrimony, and that he would happily drive off with her and live their lives together unwed.

Rachel is devastated as she understands that if they abandon the ceremony now, the curse will pass to Nicky's family. Despite her appeal to proceed with their wedding, Nicky remains adamant and the couple engage in a fierce argument with numerous painful remarks traded. This reveals to Rachel that they are not destined partners after all, particularly when Nicky discloses he never genuinely believed her regarding the curse.

The pair run out of time to complete their vows and consequently the curse passes to Nicky's family. In a chilling revelation, it transpires that the curse actually affects couples who have already married - not simply future couples - and numerous guests and relatives begin dying, blood streaming from their eyes and ears.

This includes Nicky's sister, Portia (Gus Birney) who had secretly wed in Vegas, and his mother, Victoria (Jennifer Jason Leigh). In a desperate bid to prevent further deaths, Nicky and his father deceive Rachel into completing the wedding ceremony, with Nicky placing the ring on her finger and declaring 'I do', as she questions whether he finally accepts the truth about the curse.

Almost instantly, Rachel's nose begins bleeding and she staggers away realising she faces the same gruesome end her mother suffered. She falls and bleeds to death alone, while Nicky instead consoles his dying sister.

In yet another startling revelation, Rachel returns to life. This occurs because the enigmatic old man who originally warned Rachel about the curse and was compelled to observe every doomed wedding after abandoning his own, thereby transferring the curse to the Harkins, finally perishes as the curse shifts to the Cunninghams.

As the cursed partner who failed to complete her wedding in time, Rachel subsequently assumes his role, condemned to witness every wedding in the Cunningham family line until the curse transfers once more.

Something Very Bad Is Going To Happen is now streaming on Netflix.
