Amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia, an Indian-origin man was killed after debris from an intercepted ballistic missile fell in Abu Dhabi on Thursday. With this, the number of Indian nationals killed in the Middle East conflict has risen to at least seven. The identity of the deceased has not yet been disclosed.
Another Indian national was injured in the incident, along with two others of Emirati and Jordanian nationalities. The falling debris also caused damage to several vehicles.
In a separate casualty, a Pakistani national was also killed. The incident occurred on Sweihan Street following the activation of air defence systems to intercept the incoming missile.
In a statement posted on X, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said: "As part of the ongoing follow-up to the previously reported incident caused by falling debris after the successful interception of a ballistic missile by air defence systems, the incident resulted in the deaths of two individuals of Pakistani and Indian nationality, and injuries ranging from serious to moderate sustained by three individuals of Emirati, Jordanian and Indian nationality."
Since the start of the conflict, theUAE's airdefence systems have intercepted 372 ballistic missiles, 15 cruise missiles, and 1,826 UAVs. A total of 169 people have been injured, with injuries ranging from minor to severe, according to the UAE Ministry of Defence.
The ministry added that it remains prepared to respond to any threats and will "confront" any attempts to undermine the country's security.
