Imphal: House listing operations for Census 2027 in Manipur will be conducted between September 1 and September 30, an official notification said.
The notification said, "The state government declares that house listing operations of Census of India 2027 shall take place between September 1 and September 30, during a period of 30 days with an option for self-enumeration, which shall be conducted in a fifteen-day time period between August 17 to August 31, just before the start of house listing operations."
The notification was issued on March 22.
There is growing public demand in Manipur to defer the census exercise due to concerns over the identification of illegal immigrants and the demand for implementation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) or a similar mechanism to identify illegal immigrants.
Earlier this month, at the state assembly, Congress legislature Party leader Keisham Meghachandra had called for deferment of the census exercise in the state till normalcy is restored.
