Why there will be no opening ceremony of IPL 2026
The direct reason for not holding the opening ceremony of IPL 2026 is the people killed in the victory parade of IPL 2025 at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. The opening ceremony of IPL 2026 will not be held with the intention of paying tribute to him. Along with this, 11 seats will be kept vacant during the first match for the 11 people killed in this accident and the teams will enter the field wearing black arm bands. In such a situation, where someone’s death will be mourned, celebrating with pomp and show would be a very wrong decision. Due to this, the opening ceremony has now been cancelled.
Actually, Royal Challengers Bangalore won the IPL 2025 trophy by defeating Punjab Kings. After this, RCB had organized a brick parade program on 4 June 2025 at Chinnaswamy Stadium. During this time, more than 1 lakh people had reached the ground to watch this function of RCB and the entry was free. In such a situation, a stampede broke out outside the stadium gate and about 11 people lost their lives. More than 56 people were injured in this incident.
After this, a ban was also imposed in Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Now this ban has been lifted with conditions before IPL 2026. After this incident, now the first match will be played in this stadium. In such a situation, not holding the opening ceremony is being considered a right decision. Along with this, fans can expect a spectacular closing ceremony in IPL 2026.
