Zayn Malik has offered fans an intimate look into the meaning behind his upcoming album Konnakol during a recent TalkShopLive Q&A session, highlighting a new chapter rooted in personal growth and cultural identity. The former One Direction star spoke openly about the inspirations shaping his latest project ahead of its 17 April release.

The album’s title is derived from Konnakol, a South Indian vocal percussion technique, reflecting Malik’s interest in rhythm and traditional expression. He explained that the record is heavily influenced by both Indian and Pakistani musical traditions, particularly Qawwali and Sufi sounds he grew up listening to. This approach marks a departure from his earlier pop-focused work, embracing a more spiritual and experimental sound.

During the session, Malik also addressed fan questions about his artistic evolution since leaving One Direction. He admitted he was “very young” at the time and did not fully understand his direction, adding that he now feels more confident in expressing his authentic self through music.

The singer has also released “Sideways,” a track from Konnakol that he had been teasing in recent weeks. The song provides an early glimpse into the album’s tone and has already generated excitement among fans.

Visually, the Album cover for Konnakol draws on the symbolism of the snow leopard, a native animal of Pakistan, representing strength, independence, and resilience. Malik described the album as a way of embracing and celebrating his heritage more openly.

The project also reunites him with producer Malay Ho for the first time in nearly a decade, with parts of the album recorded in Pennsylvania as part of a more reflective creative process.

Malik also spoke candidly about his experiences with anxiety and answered several heartfelt questions from fans. He shared that his daughter, Khai, has already heard the album and responded positively.

With Konnakol set for release on 17 April, Malik’s latest work signals a meaningful step forward, blending cultural influence with personal growth in what he describes as one of his most authentic projects to date.
