A green laser beam appeared to be aimed at actor Louis Koo’s eyes as he arrived at the Hong Kong Film Directors’ Guild Annual Dinner and Awards Ceremony, prompting fans to call for accountability.

According to The Stara video circulating on the social media platform Threads showed Koo stepping out of a seven-seater vehicle on March 22 to greet fans. In the clip, the green laser tracked his movements and appeared directed at his face during the brief interaction.

When Koo moved quickly indoors, the laser beam seemed to follow him for a short distance, raising concerns that the act may have been intentional, reported 8days.

The Threads user who shared the footage said they saw someone “randomly shining a green laser pointer directly into Louis Koo’s eyes” and added that they would have confronted the culprit if they had identified them.

The video sparked widespread backlash online, with many condemning the act as “intentional harm” and urging authorities to take action. Some speculated it could have been the work of an anti-fan, while others warned of the potential dangers of laser pointers, especially given Koo’s existing eye condition.

Last year, Koo revealed he had been diagnosed with two retinal holes in his right eye, causing floaters in his vision. Surgery has been postponed due to work commitments, as the procedure temporarily prevents flying. In the meantime, he has worn sunglasses, explaining that wearing the glasses helps darken the environment and make his condition less severe.

Koo’s eye issues are compounded by his history of severe myopia and presbyopia. In 2017, he also suffered a serious injury while filming “Dynasty Warriors” when a prop weapon pierced his right eye, requiring stitches.

The 56-year-old actor first rose to prominence in TVB dramas such as “The Condor Heroes,” “Detective Investigation Files IV,” and “A Step into the Past,” building a loyal fan base across Asia before focusing primarily on his film career.
