Gemini for Google TV is receiving a major upgrade. Recently, the Mountain View-based tech giant announced three new Artificial Intelligence (AI) features designed to enhance the user viewing experience and provide more detailed information without the need to search on a smartphone. Most notable among these is the new Live Sports Scorecard feature, which allows users to quickly check the scores of their favorite teams without interrupting the content they are currently watching.

New Features Arrive for Gemini on Google TV

In a blog post, the tech giant announced three upcoming features for users and provided detailed explanations for each. "Richer Visual Help" is being rolled out to Gemini-enabled devices in Canada and the U.S., while "Deep Dives" and "Sports Briefs" will be available exclusively in the U.S. Google has pledged to extend support to even more devices later this year. Additionally, the Gemini Assistant on Google TV is set to launch in more countries this year, starting with Australia, New Zealand, and the UK in the coming months.

"Richer Visual Help" is a new feature that allows users to view information related to their queries directly on their TV screens. Users can check live scorecards for their favorite sports, find video tutorials for recipes, and even plan dinner by browsing through meal suggestions. This information is presented as a blend of visuals, videos, and text.

Another new feature is "Deep Dives." With this feature, users can access Gemini-powered, narrated visual insights on topics such as health and wellness, the economy, technology, and other subjects. The AI chatbot presents a unique, interactive slideshow that includes guided follow-up questions to help users better understand the topic at hand—all directly on their smart TV. It can be accessed by activating Gemini and clicking on 'Dive deeper,' or by navigating to the Gemini tab located at the top of the home screen and selecting 'Learn.'

In a blog post, Google stated, "Deep Dives offer you the option to make your screen time more productive—rather than just watching—allowing you to engage with the topics you care about most."

In 2025, the tech giant introduced 'News Briefs' to Gemini on Google TV. This feature displays the latest headlines to keep users updated on events happening around the world. Now, this collection of briefs is being expanded to include sports-related news as well. Users who missed a game can now utilize this feature to receive timely updates—complete with commentary—regarding their favorite leagues. This includes news about players as well as concise game summaries. Currently, this feature supports the NBA, NCAA Basketball, NHL, MLB, MLS, and NWSL.
