When the ODI World Cup will be played in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia in 2027, some of the stars of Team India who had played in the previous tournament will not be able to be a part of it. While all the questions remain regarding the playing of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, there are 5 players who will not be a part of the next World Cup. Out of these, one legend has retired, while there are four players for whom the journey of the ODI team is almost over.
Ravichandran Ashwin
Ravichandran Ashwin, one of India's best spinners world cup Was a part of 2023 but then he got a chance to play only one match. In the very first match of the World Cup against Australia, he took 1 wicket for just 34 runs. After this he did not return to the playing-11. Then in December 2024, Ashwin announced his retirement from international cricket.
Suryakumar Yadav
Captain Suryakumar Yadav, who made India win the T20 World Cup, was also a part of the last World Cup and was included in the playing-11 in the final as well. But this World Cup was not good for him also. Except for a powerful inning of 49 runs against England, in the six matches in which he got a chance, he could not even cross 25 runs even once. He was on leave since the World Cup final and is not going to return now.
Mohammed Shami
Mohammed Shami was India's most successful bowler in the World Cup 2023. He got a chance in the playing-11 only due to the injury of Hardik Pandya and then after playing only 7 matches, he took the maximum of 24 wickets. After this, Shami was also an important part of the team that won the Champions Trophy last year. But since that tournament, due to his fitness and open dispute with Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, he has not been able to return to the team and it is looking difficult now also.
Shardul Thakur
It is also difficult for bowling all-rounder Shardul Thakur to return in this World Cup. He was a part of the squad in the last World Cup and got to play the first 3 matches but he failed in all three. Then while Hardik's injury opened the way for Shami, Shardul had to sit out. Since then Shardul has not returned to the ODI team. Although Shardul himself has expressed his desire to play in 2027, but now it is almost impossible.
Ravindra Jadeja
If the selection committee and team management have to take any big decision, then it is regarding the legendary all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja. There is still no answer to Jadeja in terms of fitness and fielding, but in the last few years in this format, he has proved to be equally ineffective in batting and bowling. Recently, he was a part of the ODI series against New Zealand but could score only 43 runs in 3 matches, while he did not get any wicket. In such a situation, considering the increasing importance of Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar in the team, it may be difficult for Jadeja to make a place.
