US president Donald Trump has claimed Tiger Woods will not be competing at the Masters. Woods, 50, has been intent on overcoming his injury problems to compete at Augusta next month.

With the major beginning on Thursday, April 9, Woods does not have long to overcome his physical barriers. The 15-time major winner has made it clear he is doing everything he can to compete, having not featured in a major competition since the Open in 2024.

Woods did compete in the SoFi Cup, his first time in competition in over a year, but his Jupiter Links side were beaten convincingly by the Los Angeles Golf Club. After his side's loss, he addressed his chances of participating in Georgia.

However, Trump has insisted Woods will not be in action at the Masters. The White House chief did not reveal his sources, but Woods is in a relationship with Vanessa Trump, the president's former daughter-in-law.

Trump told Fox News: "I love Tiger, but he won't be there. He'll be there, but he won't be playing in it.”

Woods is yet to confirm whether he will be competing at the Masters, though his profile on the tournament's official website states he will be competing. He has made it clear he will be at Augusta in some capacity and will attend the Champion's Dinner.

The golf great has undergone seven back surgeries and also ruptured his left Achilles tendon in March 2025. After his side's SoFi Cup loss, Woods did open up about how hard he is working to be fit to compete.

He said: "I've been trying. It's just this body doesn't recover like when I was 24, 25. It doesn't mean I'm not trying - I've been trying for a while.

"I've had a couple of back injuries the past year that I've had to fight through and it's taken some time. But I keep trying.

"I want to play, I've loved the tournament, I've loved being there since I was 19 years old. So it's meant a lot to me and my family over the years and I'm going to be there either way.”

When asked if it will be a late decision, perhaps one in the days counting up to the start of the major, Woods replied: “I don't know, we'll see how it goes. I'll be practicing playing at home this week and keep trying to make progress.”
