As any homeowner will tell you, you don't always know what you'll be in for when you first start transforming your new house it your dream home. One woman learned exactly this, as she couldn't believe what she found underneath the 'gross' carpet in her home.
After buying the house, Christa Hill took to TikTokto document the various renovationprojects she and her husband have carried out. From painting and renovating her office, to finding a hidden, paved patio in the garden, their journey has been full of surprises.
Because of this, Christa felt hopeful as she decided to remove the carpet in their living and dining rooms to see what she could find under it. And she surely hit the jackpot.

"Today is the day we let the intrusive thoughts win," Christa said at the start of her video. "I've decided I'm gonna rip up the carpet, I can't stand it any longer."
The video went on to show the carpet in question, which was a dark teal blue colour and placed up the stairs and along a corridor, past the kitchen and into the dining room.
"It's disgusting. It's got all of these stains, stains that came with the house, not our stains, and other people's stains cannot stay," Christa said. "So let's see if there's anything nicer underneath."
After removing the furniture placed at the end of the corridor, including a small sofa, a chair, and some bookcases, Christa started pulling the carpet away from one of the corners. Then the time came to remove the underlay to see what had been hiding under the carpet, and she couldn't believe what she found.
She quickly lifted her arms over her head as a celebration as she uncovered the well-preserved hardwood oak flooring. Examining it closer, Christa said: "It's gonna be some work, but not that much work."
After throwing the first bit of carpet out of the window into their garden, Christa continued to show herself removing the carpet from the floor and staircase. She said: "Up until this point, I was feeling pretty cocky. It had all been pretty easy."
"That was before it took hours to remove this plywood," she continued as she showed herself struggling to remove the plywood that had been nailed down to the flooring in their dining room. However, the hard work paid off, as Christa went on to show the before and after clips.
Showing what the view of the dining room looked like with the dark teal blue carpet, the video soon got a lot brighter as the sun reflected down onto the oak flooring, making it all look brighter and more homely.
"And like with most projects, there is a little bit more to do than I first anticipated," Christa revealed, sharing the flooring needed to be patched up due to small holes, before sanding down the floorboards and colour match it with the nearby flooring.
Despite the extra work, Christa seemed happy with the overall results, and so did her viewers, who took to the comment section to share their amazement.
"What a dream to find nice floorboards," one person said, while another user commented: "Omg I’d be so happy if I found hardboard floors under old carpet that’s so lucky."
