Geneva (Switzerland), March 27. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has taken a major decision regarding transgender women and announced that transgender women will no longer be able to participate in women’s events in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics and future games.

Now only biological women will be able to participate in the women’s category.

According to the new policy of IOC, now only biological women (who are female by birth) will be allowed to participate in the women’s category. Players will have to undergo a gene test once to confirm gender. Testing can be done with the help of spit, blood sample or cheek. However, athletes who were female at birth and now consider themselves transgender will be able to compete in women’s events.

Participation of biological males in women’s category is not right – IOC President

IOC President Christy Coventry said that this big decision has been taken because it would not be right for biological males to compete in the women’s category. He said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the fairness and safety of women’s sports.

Athletes will have to undergo screening only once in their life.

He said, ‘The policy we have announced is based on science and has been led by medical advisors. In the Olympic Games, even the smallest difference between victory and defeat can make a difference. For this reason, it is quite clear that it would not be right for biological males to compete in the women’s category. Furthermore, in some games it would not be safe at all. Every athlete should be treated with dignity and respect and athletes will have to undergo screening only once in their life.

According to the rules till now, the IOC allowed transgender women to play on the condition of having low testosterone levels or left the decision to individual sports federations. However, the IOC is now in favor of a uniform policy in all types of sports. Due to this, sports organizations will not be able to make different types of rules. However, many sports organizations have already banned transgender athletes.
