Kamada Ekadashi fasting story

According to mythological belief, the story of Kamada Ekadashi was narrated by Guru Vashishtha to King Dilip, the ancestor of Lord Rama. In ancient times, there was a city named Bhogipur, which was ruled by King Pundarika. A couple named Lalita and Lalit lived lovingly in this city. Lalit used to sing songs in the king’s court. Once while singing a song, his attention went towards his wife, due to which his tune got spoiled. Seeing this the king became angry and cursed Lalit to become a demon. Due to the curse, Lalit became a demon and started eating meat. His appearance also became terrible. Even in such a situation, Lalita did not leave her husband and kept asking people how to get rid of this curse.

One day Lalita followed her husband into the forest, where she saw an ashram. There was a sage there. Lalita saluted him and introduced herself and told about her husband’s curse. The sage said that if you offer the virtue gained by fasting on Ekadashi of Shukla Paksha of Chaitra month to your husband, he will be freed from the curse. Listening to the sage, Lalita observed a fast on Kamada Ekadashi and worshiped Lord Vishnu as per the rituals. She broke the fast on Dwadashi date and offered the virtues of the fast to her husband. Due to the effect of the fast, Lalit was gradually freed from the curse and returned to his human form. After this, both the husband and wife together started fasting for 24 Ekadashi. In this way all the problems of his life went away and he started living a happy life. Due to the effect of Ekadashi fast, his sins were also destroyed.
