Manchester United supporters will have to wait a fortnight longer for club football as the international break rolls on. Numerous first-team players are representing their countries while Michael Carrick continues vital work with the non-internationals at Carrington. Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot have linked up with Portugal, while Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo have joined on-loan Marcus Rashford in the England camp. Further international representatives include Senne Lammens, Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Manuel Ugarte.

Carrick will press ahead with crucial preparations at Carrington as United ready themselves for Leeds United's visit on April 13. With the Premier League's resumption still some way off for the Red Devils, summer transfer window preparations will also be gathering pace.

Here's a round-up all the latest developments emerging from Old Trafford...

Bruno Fernandes approves transfer

Club skipper Fernandes has allegedly endorsed the acquisition of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle as United edge closer to bolstering their midfield options. The Red Devils are eager to strengthen centrally and the Italian has been associated with a potential exit from the north east - with Arsenal also understood to be interested.

With Newcastle virtually guaranteed to fall short of Champions League qualification next season - and United maintaining their grip on a European position in the standings - key figures like Tonali could seek fresh challenges elsewhere.

The Daily Mail reports that United are anticipated to submit an official offer for the former AC Milan midfielder. Fernandes is believed to favour the move as Tonali is expected to be prioritised ahead of alternative targets like Elliot Anderson and Adam Wharton.

talkSPORT reports that a sum of between £80million and £100m might be sufficient to convince the Magpies to part with a vital member of their midfield. Newcastle invested £52m for the 25 year old three years ago and are looking to generate a return should they relinquish his services.

Carrick 'closing in' on deal

United have suffered a significant setback in their managerial hunt as Luis Enrique appears poised to pen fresh terms at Paris Saint-Germain. The Spanish coach features on the club's shortlist as they evaluate candidates for a new manager but information has surfaced concerning his short-term plans.

The i newspaper indicates that club president Nasser AlKhelaifi is determined to retain Enrique moving forward. The 55-year-old's current deal expires in 2027 but appears destined for an extension in the coming period.

It is understood that the acquisition of Dro Fernandez in January was viewed as an incentive to retain Enrique for the long term.

This development has allegedly left Carrick 'on the verge' of securing the permanent role as he was expected to maintain the position temporarily until a new appointment in the summer.

The caretaker manager has impressed since replacing Ruben Amorim in January with supporters demanding his appointment be made official.
