Sohum Shah’s cult horror classic *Tumbbad* (2018) is still enthralling the audience. Its popularity further increased following its successful re-release in 2024, making it one of the highest-grossing re-released Indian films. Buoyed by this renewed interest, Shah has officially announced *Tumbbad 2*, promising an even bigger and more ambitious sequel.

According to industry sources, **Sohum Shah Films**, in collaboration with **Pen Studios** headed by veteran producer Dr. Jayantilal Gada, is leaving no stone unturned in making the film the best it can be. The filmmakers also went beyond the original film’s intricate folkloric-horror world, focusing on complete authenticity, large-scale **shooting on real locations**, and intricately crafted environments.

The sequel is planned to be a true magnum opus, with a lengthy shooting schedule of over **200 days**. For the initial schedule, a huge **7–8 acre set** is being built in Mumbai, which will look like an entire city; This is indicative of a more immersive cinematic experience.

According to reports, the shooting has started on **Madh Island**, which started with a grand opening scene involving a huge crowd. **Adesh Prasad**, one of the writers of the original film, is directing the film. Sohum Shah will once again be seen reprising his role of Vinayak Rao, while **Nawazuddin Siddiqui** is joining the film in an important role.

The 2018 film, directed by Rahi Anil Barve and also starring Anand Gandhi, was the story of Vinayak’s dangerous search for a treasure hidden in the cursed village of Tumbbad. The film first became a ‘sleeper hit’, and then became a universally appreciated ‘cult favourite’, being a perfect blend of mystery, folklore and horror.

With expectations rising, *Tumbbad 2* aims to expand on that dark and mysterious world, while delivering an even more grandiose visual and story experience. The project reflects Shah’s commitment to creating quality horror cinema based on Indian folklore. More details about the film’s story and cast are expected to be revealed soon.
