Famous Ugadi Festival of Karnataka
The famous Shrimale Mahadeshwar Hills are present at an altitude of 3000 feet in Chamarajanagar district. Like every year, Ugadi festival was organized here this year too. Devotees from Karnataka and neighboring states climbed the hill of about 8 kilometers to reach the 600-year-old Shiva temple to have darshan of the Lord.
Rathotsav is organized on the last day of this five-day festival, which is the main center of attraction. On the last day of the festival, 101 women of the Bedagampan community performed the Belladarati ritual with which the Rath Yatra began. During the journey, loud cheers of Madappa were heard all over the hill.
Laddu Prasadam is the center of attraction
The second biggest attraction in Shrimale Mahadeshwar is the famous Laddu Prasadam. This year, laddus were specially made for 6 lakh devotees. A large number of devotees crowd here to take this Prasad.

There is a temple named Male Mahadweshwar, about which it is said that there was a great saint in the 15th century who is considered to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva. He did penance on this hill and attained Samadhi here. At that time a devotee had built this temple. Since then the tradition of this festival is going on.
History of Male Mahadeshwar Hills
Male Mahadeshwar Hills (MM Hills) is a major pilgrimage center located in the dense forests of the Eastern Ghats in Chamarajanagar district. An ancient and revered Shri Male Mahadeshwar Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva (in the form of Mahadeshwar) is situated here. The site is renowned for its unique spiritual sanctity, history spanning over six centuries and being situated amidst an important wildlife sanctuary.
The temple is associated with the saint Sri Male Mahadeshwara Swami, who lived in the 15th century and is believed to have performed miracles in the region. The temple has a distinctive gopuram built in the Dravidian style, reflecting its South Indian heritage. The surrounding hills are part of the Male Mahadeshwara Wildlife Sanctuary, a protected area known for its dense forests and wildlife, including elephants, deer and leopards. Local folklore and songs describe the life and miracles of Lord Mahadeshwara Swamy, who is the totem of many local communities. The annual Mahashivratri festival and Rathotsav attract millions of devotees, making it one of the largest religious events in the region.
