Garden renovations can be pricey, especially if starting from scratch. Luckily, there are ways to revamp outdoor spaces on a budget. The team at LightingLegends.com have shared "simple yet effective" changes to make this spring.

Jon Saeed, co-founder of LightingLegends.com, said: "Upgrading your outdoor space ready for the spring and summer doesn't have to be expensive. You also don't have to differentiate changes for the space to feel different. People often make the mistake of thinking they need an entirely new garden dining set or a complete landscaping refresh for the space to feel different, but it's just not true.

"Making a few small changes, such as edging borders, adding lighting, and other accessories such as garden cushions and outdoor rugs, can instantly make everything look neater and brighter."

Add solar lighting

Solar lights are a great addition and can help make your garden feel cosier in the evenings, extending your summer days outdoors. These can hang along fences or be staked into the ground to illuminate footpaths or plants.

Gravel paths and patios

The expert said: "Gravel is one of the cheapest ways to make a garden path or patio. Of course, the total cost of the gravel you'll need will depend on the size you're hoping to cover, but gravel can be fairly inexpensive in comparison to other materials.

"You can do this yourself by simply marking up and digging out your path, adding edging and weed membrane and laying down the gravel."

Make use of marketplaces

Marketplaces, both online and in person, often have great finds that are still in good condition.

Items such as tables, benches and large planters from marketplaces are often inexpensive and may just need a slight touch-up of paint.

Upgrade seating areas with accessories

The garden expert explained: "You may not need an entire new garden set. Some fresh accessories and decorative pieces can make existing furniture look new.

"Consider purchasing some outdoor cushions or throws to add to your seating area. Outdoor rugs also bring a new lease of life to the area and can make it more cosy."

Upgrade regular materials

The expert recommended looking at online marketplaces and charity shops to see what materials or products you can use in the garden.

You may need to get a little creative, but upcycled items often add the most character to gardens. Things like wooden pallets can be used for seating or as vertical planters.

Edge your borders or lawn

The expert said: "Neat lines will instantly make the garden look visually tidy and clean. Dig a shallow trench and add something like bricks or stones for the edging. You can also add a layer of sand first to make sure everything is even."

Give the garden a fresh lick of paint

A fresh coat of paint on fences, gates and sheds goes a long way in the garden. The expert explained that it's a "cheap and cheerful" way to bring the space back to life.
