Swiggy users will soon be able to skip the usual tap-and-scroll routine entirely. The food delivery platform has integrated Sarvam AI's language models into its app, allowing users to place orders, shop for groceries, and book restaurant tables by simply speaking in whichever Indian language they are comfortable with.
The feature works with all three of Swiggy's services: Food Delivery, Instamart, and Dineout. Users can use voice commands to interact with an AI assistant instead of manually navigating menus and filters. The AI assistant can then handle discovery, selection, and checkout in a single conversation. Razorpay's UPI Reserve Pay handles payments, so the whole process, from searching to confirming, happens in the same interface.
Sarvam AI's models are trained on Indian language data and support 11 languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Bengali, and Marathi. This approach is what separates the integration from existing voice features on most platforms, which tend to operate in English or offer limited regional language support, the company claims.
Swiggy's new voice feature: Things to know before using it
There are two distinct ways the feature can be used. The first is via a phone-call-based interface, meaning users do not need the app or an internet connection to place an order. This was demonstrated at the India AI Impact Summit in New Delhi for Instamart grocery orders. The second is through Indus, Sarvam's chat platform, where users can access Swiggy's services via a conversational AI interface and complete purchases using voice inputs.
This use case is most convenient for users who are less comfortable navigating English-language app interfaces or for those in smaller towns and cities where regional language preferences are strong. Voice-led ordering lowers the barrier to entry for users who may find the current app navigation unfamiliar.
"True accessibility means meeting users where they are, in the languages they speak," Swiggy CTO Madhusudhan Rao said.
The integration follows Swiggy's earlier rollout of Model Context Protocol-based features and agent-led payment systems, continuing its push to bring AI-driven tools into everyday commerce on the platform.
