Jannik Sinner has entered the tennis history books thanks to his victory in the Miami Open final. Sinner claimed a 6-4 6-4 win over Jiri Lehecka in Sunday's final in Florida to add another title to his ever-growing collection.

The 24-year-old had defeated Alexander Zverev in the semi-final last week to book his place in Sunday's final, where he won the Miami Open without dropping a single set.

In the process of winning in Florida, Sinner also secured the 'Sunshire Double', which involves winning both the Miami Open and the Indian Wells in the same calendar year.

The last men's player to win the 'Sunshire Double' was Roger Federer back in 2017, and Sinner has joined more elite company thanks to his victory in Miami on Sunday.

Sinner has now become only the third player to win three consecutive Masters 1000 titles, having also won the Paris Masters last year.

The other two players to achieve the same feat were Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, who both managed to win four Masters 1000 titles in a row across their respective careers.

Sinner has also become the eighth men's player to win the 'Sunshire Double' in tennis history, joining Jim Courier, Michael Chang, Pete Sampras, Marcelo Rios, Andre Agassi, plus Federer and Djokovic.

"It has been an incredible swing for me and I'm extremely happy with the work we did to be in this position," Sinner said after his win in Miami.

"We had some good practice days before Indian Wells and seeing this kind of result makes me happy, as does the level we are trying to produce and the player we're trying to achieve.

"Making the 'Sunshine Double' here for the first time, it's incredible. It's something I would have never thought, because it's difficult to achieve, and we made it somehow, so I'm very happy.

"I tried to stay solid in very different conditions today, it was very heavy so it's tough to go through the player. I tried to stay solid in important moments and I'm very happy to take this [trophy] home with me."

Sinner's attention will soon turn towards the second grand slam of the year with the French Open getting underway at Roland Garros on May 18.

The Italian reached the final last year before losing to Carlos Alcaraz, with the French Open the only grand slam he has yet to win across his career.
