Umang Singhar participated in the Youth MLA Conference, said “Student union elections are necessary to strengthen democracy”

Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar participated in the Youth MLA Conference of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Rajasthan organized in Madhya Pradesh Assembly today. In this conference, detailed discussions were held with young public representatives on democratic values, functioning of the Legislative Assembly and effective methods of public service.

In his address, Umang Singhar said that leadership does not start from the position but from the college and student union. He expressed concern that student union elections have stopped in our country, whereas these have been the most effective means of developing leadership abilities among the youth. The Congress leader said that during college, the youth develop the energy to fight the system and the thinking of change. He said that youth leadership strengthens democracy, hence student union elections are necessary.

In the Young MLA Conference, Umang Singhar told the young MLAs that “You all have new thinking and you want active participation in democracy. The roots of democracy will be strong only when the democratic system in the country is strong and the voice of the public representatives is effective.” He said that amidst the increasing influence of AI and data science in the digital age, it is very important to use it responsibly.

He also clarified that winning elections is not an art, but heartfelt connection with the public is the real strength. The Congress leader said that if the public representatives work for the public with honesty and dedication, they will not have to face defeat. He said that MLAs have the authority to make rules and regulations under parliamentary traditions, but the public pays attention to how many problems of their area are being raised in the Assembly.

Umang Singhar said that every public representative has to strike a balance between the problems of his area, the expectations of the workers and the available resources. He stressed that it is necessary to work strategically within a limited budget and set priorities that benefit the maximum number of people. Pointing out the need for regular meetings of the Assembly, he said that democracy will be strong only when the voice of the MLAs is heard effectively in the Parliament and the Assembly.
