Sagar Parekh Calls for 8-Hour Work Shifts for Male Actors
Sagar Parekh, known for his portrayal of Samar in Anupamaa, has recently voiced his support for implementing an 8-hour work shift for male actors in the entertainment industry. This discussion gained momentum after Deepika Padukone stepped back from several major projects, citing her preference for an 8-hour workday following her transition into motherhood. Parekh believes that the focus on 8-hour shifts has predominantly centered around women, neglecting the needs of male actors who also deserve similar considerations.
Sagar Parekh Discusses the Shift Debate
In an exclusive interview with a media outlet, Sagar Parekh shared his thoughts on Kinshuk Vaidya’s choice to reduce his working hours after welcoming a son. While he supports Vaidya's decision, he acknowledged that the television industry often requires longer hours to meet the demands of daily programming. When questioned about the lack of attention given to male actors in the 8-hour shift conversation, Parekh emphasized that men also have familial obligations and responsibilities. He believes that discussions about equality should encompass all genders.
The Jagriti – Ek Nayi Subah actor remarked, “It’s intriguing how these discussions often revolve around female actors. In reality, achieving a work-life balance should not be gender-specific. Male actors also have families and responsibilities. If the industry is advocating for equality, it should be inclusive of everyone. However, actors must also be realistic about the nature of television work, which is not akin to a standard 9-to-5 job.”
Unspoken Expectations for Male Actors
Parekh further revealed that there exists an unspoken expectation for male actors to continuously work without questioning their hours. He stated, “There’s an assumption that male actors will manage their work-life balance without any discussion. However, they too experience pressure. The question remains: can television adapt to fixed working hours for actors? This remains unanswered.” Sagar Parekh’s insights could ignite significant conversations online regarding this topic. What are your thoughts on his perspective? We would love to hear from you.
