Bureau Prayagraj- Amidst the West Asia crisis, news of severe shortage of LPG gas is coming across the world. After LPG gas, now the government’s statement has come amid reports of shortage of urea. The central government said on Monday that despite the growing crisis in West Asia and supply- problems, there is sufficient stock of fertilizer. This stock is about 180 lakh metric tonnes (LMT), whereas a year ago it was 147 LMT.
However, Aparna Sharma, Additional Secretary, Department of Fertilizers, said that domestic urea production has been affected. As on date, we have adequate stock position, he said at a briefing between the ministries. Urea and Diammonium Phosphate (DAP) are being made available to farmers at fixed prices. He further said that the supply is under control. Sharma said the global fertilizer market has been impacted and prices have increased due to the current geopolitical situation. Our freight costs have also increased. 31 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of DAP and NPK will be supplied to India annually over a five-year period till 30.
Aparna Sharma further explained that April and May are generally the months when work is a bit slow and this time is used to accumulate stock.
