8 Women Killed in Stampede at Nalanda Temple, PM Modi Expresses Grief, Announces Ex-Gratia for Victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic stampede in Nalanda, calling the incident “deeply painful” and extending condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister also prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the mishap.

The incident took place on Tuesday in Nalanda district of Bihar, where at least eight women devotees lost their lives in a stampede at a crowded temple. Several others were injured in the chaos.

According to officials, the tragedy occurred at a temple in Maghra village of Bihar Sharif during a large gathering on the last Tuesday of the Chaitra month, a day considered significant by devotees.

The injured have been admitted to a nearby Model Hospital, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

Announcing financial assistance, the Prime Minister said that an ex-gratia of Rs.2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) will be given to the families of each deceased, while those injured will receive Rs.50,000.

The incident has triggered widespread concern, with locals and authorities expressing grief over the loss of lives. Officials have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the stampede, while relief and rescue operations were promptly carried out.

Such incidents have raised recurring concerns over crowd management and safety arrangements during large religious gatherings in the region.
