One of Marvel's top-rated original series has made a comeback for a new season and plays a pivotal role in its cinematic universe.
Daredevil Born Again was dubbed as a 'brutal' show and had viewers 'screaming at the TV' with its initial set of episodes from its debut season last year. It was also hailed as a 'must watch' for fans of the franchise as a whole.
Its inaugural season left quite an impact, earning an impressive 87% rating on the website Rotten Tomatoes. This new chapter has raised the bar in every aspect, achieving an even higher score of 95%.
Charlie Cox reprises his role as Matt Murdock, a blind lawyer with enhanced abilities, fighting for justice through his thriving law firm. He also battles for it on the streets of Hells Kitchen in New York City as costumed vigilante Daredevil.
Meanwhile, former mob boss Wilson Fisk, portrayed once again by Vincent D'Onofrio, pursues his own political ambitions in New York. As their past identities start to resurface, both men find themselves on an unavoidable collision course, reports the Mirror.
But is Daredevil Born Again a sequel? And where does it fit into the timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Here's everything you need to know.
Is Daredevil Born Again a sequel?
Daredevil Born Again serves as a sequel in more ways than one. As Season 2 is now available on Disney Plus, it naturally continues from where the first season concluded.
Mayor Wilson Fisk aims to seize control of New York City with his new ruthless task force, established to pursue public enemy number one, Daredevil.
However, beneath the horned mask, Matt Murdock will attempt to resist from the shadows, aiming to dismantle the Kingpin's corrupt empire and reclaim his home.
Also reprising their roles are Wilson Bethel as Bullseye and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen. Meanwhile, fresh faces include Matthew Lillard in a villainous role.
Yet, Daredevil Born Again also acts as a sequel to the Netflix series that spanned three seasons from 2015. While Marvel sought to resurrect the series after Disney regained the rights to the character, they did not disregard the events that occurred in the series. All the storylines in the original Netflix show and its offshoots, including Punisher and Jessica Jones, remain canon.
This is apparent as many stars from those shows have returned for the revived Daredevil Born Again, including Jon Bernthal as Punisher and in the new season, Krysten Ritter will reprise her role as Jessica Jones.
This also signifies that, thanks to Born Again, Daredevil has officially been incorporated into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The character of Wilson Fisk made an appearance in the Hawkeye series, while Charlie Cox's portrayal of Daredevil has already had a cameo alongside Tom Holland in Spider-Man No Way Home.
In the meantime, the events of Daredevil Born Again season 1 unfold after the narrative of The Marvels and Agatha All Along. Captain America: Brave New World and Thunderbolts occur between the first and second seasons of Daredevil Born Again. The forthcoming film Spider-Man Brand New Day is anticipated to be the next instalment following the show.
