William Walsh Becomes New CEO of Indigo: Indigo, the country's largest airline, announced on Tuesday that it has appointed former British Airways chief William Walsh as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). The company's board made the appointment, although it is still subject to regulatory approval.

William Walsh currently serves as Director General of the International Air Transport Association. His term ends on July 31, 2026, and he is expected to join IndiGo immediately thereafter, i.e., by August 3, 2026. IndiGo said in a statement that Walsh's appointment will be subject to regulatory approval. His term at IATA ends on July 31, and he is expected to assume his position by August 3.

Major hires amid international expansion

This appointment comes as IndiGo continues to strengthen its international expansion strategy. Work on new aircraft orders and global routes is progressing rapidly. In this context, the arrival of an experienced global aviation leader like Walsh is considered a major strategic move for the company. Walsh, commonly known as "Willie," previously served as CEO of British Airways and International Airlines Group (IAG). IAG is a holding company that includes airlines like Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level, and Vueling.
