A new IPL season could not have started in a more dramatic fashion for Rajasthan Royals, as they delivered a dominant performance against Chennai Super Kings on Monday. The team secured a convincing eight-wicket win while chasing a target of 128, finishing the match with 47 balls remaining. This turned out to be the biggest victory margin in Rajasthan Royals’ 17-year IPL history.

Their previous best came in 2014 when they defeated Royal Challengers Bengaluru with 42 balls to spare. Across the league, the record still belongs to Mumbai Indians who once won a game with 87 balls remaining against Kolkata Knight Riders back in 2008.

The match began with Chennai batting first after being put in by captain Riyan Parag. The pitch, affected by earlier rain and covered conditions, offered help to the bowlers and Rajasthan made full use of it. Fast bowlers Nandre Burger and Jofra Archer struck early, putting pressure on Chennai right from the start. Nandre Burger removed Sanju Samson and Ayush Mhatre, while Jofra Archer dismissed captain Ruturaj Gaikwad.

Things quickly got worse for Chennai when Ravindra Jadeja, facing his former team, took two important wickets in his first over. He removed Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube, leaving Chennai struggling at 57 for 6 within eight overs. Although Jamie Overton tried to fight back with a score of 43, the team could only reach 127 before being bowled out.

Chasing a modest total, Rajasthan played with confidence from the beginning. The highlight of the innings was 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who impressed everyone with a stunning 50 off just 15 balls. His fearless hitting, including multiple sixes off Noor Ahmad and a brilliant shot over point against Matt Henry, helped finish the game early.

Chennai had one opportunity to turn things around when Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dropped on zero but that mistake proved costly. He made sure his team took full advantage.

While Vaibhav Sooryavanshi led the charge, Yashasvi Jaiswal supported him well with an unbeaten 38. After the young batter got out, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag calmly guided the team home in just 12.1 overs, sealing a memorable win and giving Rajasthan Royals a perfect start to their campaign.
