On Tuesday, Shiv Kumar Soren and Prithvi Oraon from Jharkhand emerged as the fastest male and female athletes during the inaugural Khelo India Tribal Games 2026, held at the Kreeda Parisar ground in Jagdalpur.
Sprint Finals: Jharkhand's Double Gold
Both Shiv Kumar and Prithvi dominated their respective 100m races, securing gold medals for their state. Shiv Kumar finished with a time of 10.58 seconds, while Tilak Barsel earned silver for Chhattisgarh with a time of 10.87 seconds. Odisha's Atish Kindo took the bronze with a time of 10.91 seconds.
In the women's 100m final, 16-year-old Prithvi achieved her personal best, winning gold with a time of 12.73 seconds. Ruduolhounuo Belho from Nagaland and Jharkhand's Putul Bakshi secured silver and bronze, clocking 12.90 seconds and 13.03 seconds, respectively.
Prithvi expressed her confidence, stating, "I was sure of winning a medal after performing well in the selection trials. I focused on giving my best today and am thrilled to have set my personal best."
Chhattisgarh's Medal Achievements and Football Final
Siddharth Nagesh from Chhattisgarh started the day strong, winning silver in men's discus throw with a distance of 35.56 meters. Gujarat's Danish Makvana took gold with a throw of 44.83 meters, while Odisha's Chandray Murmu secured bronze at 33.97 meters.
Later, Nagesh clinched gold in shot put with a throw of 13.52 meters, surpassing Makvana, who earned silver with 13.04 meters.
Chhattisgarh's women's football team advanced to the finals after defeating Arunachal Pradesh in a penalty shootout. They will face Jharkhand, who triumphed over Gujarat with a remarkable 9-0 victory.
Current Medal Standings
Chhattisgarh currently ranks 10th in the medal tally, boasting two gold, seven silver, and four bronze medals.
Karnataka leads with 19 gold, seven silver, and seven bronze medals, while Odisha follows with 13 gold, eight silver, and 15 bronze medals.
Jharkhand has climbed to third place after winning gold in the women's 4x100m relay and men's 77kg Greco-Roman wrestling, bringing their total to seven gold, two silver, and five bronze medals. Abhishek Munda secured gold by defeating Himachal Pradesh's Arfan in Ambikapur.
