Currently, you have to open a contact's chat to see if they're online. If you're talking to multiple people, you have to check each chat individually, which is time-consuming. This new feature is being introduced to address this issue.

Meta's app could add a dedicated section showing the names of all contacts currently online. This would allow users to directly initiate conversations with the person who is currently active. According to tech update tracking website WABetaInfo, this feature is currently in testing and has been spotted in a beta version of Android.

According to reports, this new section could be located within the app's settings, where users will be able to access a sort of online hub. However, its final placement hasn't been decided yet and could change before launch.

This feature will ensure user privacy. If someone has hidden their last seen or online status, they will not appear in this list. This means that only contacts who are willing to share their online information will be visible.

This feature is currently in development and may be rolled out in future updates. Once launched, it will make chatting easier and faster for users, as real-time information about active users will now be available in one place.
