Google Vids gets avatar customization, YouTube export features

Google has updated its video editor app, Vids, with a bunch of new features.

The latest update brings the ability to direct and customize avatars using natural language prompts.

This means users can now guide the behavior of an avatar in a scene by simply describing what they want it to do.

The update also includes support for Veo 3.1 model, YouTube export functionality, and a Chrome extension for recording videos.

This includes adjusting their appearance, changing outfits, and creating new backgrounds using prompts.

Google says that despite the dynamic nature of the output, Vids maintains character consistency across scenes.

This means characters won't suddenly change their appearance or voice midway through a video.

Video generation model integrated into Vids
New capabilities

Along with the avatar customization features, Google has also integrated its latest video-generation model, Veo 3.1, into Vids.

The model can generate eight-second clips within the editing tool itself.

All users get 10 free generations per month while those with Google AI Ultra and Workspace AI Ultra accounts can generate up to 1,000 Veo videos per month.

New Chrome extension for screen recording
Export feature

The update also brings direct YouTube export for finished videos, eliminating the need to download and upload them manually.

All exported videos are private by default, giving users a chance to review their content before making it public.

A new screen-recording Chrome extension has also been added to the video suite, allowing users to capture screen with audio or video.
