'I'm a Strictly judge - here's who definitely shouldn't replace Tess and Claudia'

There's already a scramble behind the scenes to reshape Strictly Come Dancing - but one former insider has made it crystal clear what he thinks bosses are getting wrong. Bruno Tonioli, who appeared on the panel from the first series in 2004 until quitting in 2019, has weighed in on the growing debate over who should replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman - and in his view, producers are heading in completely the wrong direction. Speaking candidly, Bruno insisted the show should not bring in a male presenter at all - despite rumours that BBC bosses are actively considering exactly that.

Bruno told the Daily Mail: "I think it will be better for them to find two women to replace Tess and Claudia because what I liked is that you had these two women holding the show. It was empowering to watch and that's what Strictly should be.

"Having Tess and Claudia together on the show made it quite special." It's a clear warning shot - and one that cuts straight through the current speculation.

Behind the scenes, producers are reportedly looking at a shake-up that would see a male co-host introduced alongside a female presenter, with names including Rylan Clark, Bradley Walsh and Johannes Radebe all said to be in the frame.

But from Bruno's perspective, that move risks undoing something that made the show work in the first place.

And frankly, he's right. Strictly has always thrived on its warmth, its balance and its sense of familiarity - and the pairing of two female hosts has become part of the show's identity.

Now, of course, there is a counterpoint - and it's a big one. Bruce Forsyth. Brucie was a hugely popular, much-loved male host, and for years, he was the heartbeat of the show. He proved a man can front Strictly and make it feel warm, funny and unmistakably its own.

But here's the problem - and it's where I agree with Bruno. You can't just replace Bruce Forsyth. Not with this current crop, anyway.

Because what he brought wasn't just charm or experience - it was decades of showbiz authority, effortless timing and a presence that filled the room. That's not something you can replicate by slotting in a familiar face and hoping for the same magic.

And right now, none of the rumoured names feels like a natural successor to that. Which makes the idea of forcing a male co-host feel even more unnecessary.

It's a strong list - but it doesn't answer the bigger question. Do any of them genuinely replace Bruce? Or are they just filling a gap that doesn't need to be filled?

Elsewhere, there are strong contenders already in the mix who feel far more aligned with what Strictly has become.

Emma Willis and Zoe Ball are both reportedly leading the race. It's a line-up that feels far more in keeping with the show's tone - and, crucially, its audience.

Strictly has always been about comfort viewing, familiarity and chemistry. For me, Bruno's right to sound the alarm.

Because if bosses chase change for the sake of it, they risk losing what makes the show work in the first place.
