If you're looking for a stunning holiday destination to visit this spring or summer, there's one place you simply must consider. It's the perfect spot for a weekend away and it won't cost you a fortune. Bucharest in Romania has a vibrant mix of history, culture, and modern energy. The capital city is an affordable holiday escape, with a pint coming in at just £2.60

The capital is home to landmarks like the Palace of the Parliament and it has a charming Old Town, full of historic architecture and lively bars. Bucharest is also known for its green spaces, like Herastrau Park, and cultural spots, like the Romanian Athenaeum, which add to its charm.

One must-do while in Bucharest is to visit Stavropoleos Monastery, which is one of the oldest churches in the city.

A visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: "The monastery is situated in the Old Town. It is a fabulous place steeped in history, the interior is stunning and it's free to visit. Do not miss the opportunity if you are in town."

Another penned: "It is a very small and very beautiful church. It is one of the oldest churches in Bucharest. In my opinion, it is the most beautiful church in Bucharest."

While you're in Bucharest, seeing the Old Town is one of the best ways to absorb the local culture.

The area is known for its pretty buildings, its range of restaurants and lively atmosphere.

It is just a short walk away from the castles and the surrounding countryside.

Another visitor to the city said on TripAdvisor: "This is a beautiful area of Bucharest, the oldest part of the city, with cafes all over, nighttime activity is great with the people coming out nightly for coffee or to have a beer or food with friends."

To get to Bucharest, a flight from London takes around three hours and 15 minutes.

On a blog called Freedom Years Travel, one person says: "If you're wondering how long to spend in Bucharest, I'd recommend at least three full days.

"Two gave me a good overview, but an extra day would have allowed time to explore museums, relax in cafés, and see a few neighbourhoods beyond the centre."

The city offers an exciting and affordable break for Brits this summer.
