Raipur: Chhattisgarh High Court has given a big verdict in the 23 year old famous Ramavatar Jaggi murder case. Amit Jogi, son of former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi, has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being found guilty of murder and criminal conspiracy. The High Court gave this decision on Thursday.
The High Court overturned the decision of the lower court
The division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Arvind Kumar Verma accepted the appeal of CBI. The court canceled the 2007 decision of the lower court, in which Amit Jogi was acquitted due to lack of evidence.
The High Court found Amit Jogi guilty under sections 302 (murder) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the IPC. The court has sentenced him to life imprisonment. Besides, a fine of Rs 1,000 has also been imposed. If the fine is not paid, one will have to undergo additional 6 months rigorous imprisonment.
The High Court said that it is not fair to punish some people on the basis of a single testimony and leave the main conspirator free. The court termed the lower court’s decision as legally flawed.
