Malda: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday wanted to know why Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his first public rally in Cooch Behar on Sunday, remained silent over Pakistan's threat to attack Kolkata, and demanded his resignation.
"You (PM) target West Bengal during election rallies but when Pakistan talks of attacking Bengal, you stay silent. You should resign," the CM said. Speaking at a rally in Nadia district, she referred to the threats allegedly made by Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif that Pakistan would retaliate with a strike on Kolkata.
On Saturday, Asif warned India that it would respond with a strike in Kolkata to any "future misadventures". "If India tries to stage any false flag operation this time, then God-willingly, we will take it to Kolkata," Asif had said in Sialkot."When Pakistan's defence minister says they will attack Kolkata, why did the PM not say that we will take strong action," she asked. "We do not accept any threat to the country. We will also not take the threat to Kolkata lying down," she said.
