The makers of Sanjay Dutt starrer *Aakhri Sawal* have postponed the theatrical release of the film by almost a week. The film will now release in theaters on May 8, 2026, instead of the previously announced mid-May date.

The teaser, released on the occasion of Hanuman Jayanti on April 2, 2026, has created quite a stir. It gives a glimpse of the history of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), founded in 1925, and touches on key events spanning almost a century, including the ban imposed after Mahatma Gandhi and the Babri Masjid controversy. The teaser, which is said to be bold and dialogue-oriented, has raised many sharp questions and sparked a debate across the country.

Directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Abhijit Mohan Warang (known for powerful films like Picasso*), the film stars Sanjay Dutt as Professor Gopal Nadkarni, Namashi Chakraborty as Vicky, a bright but sharp-eyed scholar, and also stars Amit Sadh, Neetu Chandra, Tridha Choudhary, and Sameera Reddy (in her comeback role).

The story revolves around a fierce confrontation between a guru and a disciple. When Vicky’s thesis is rejected, a personal academic dispute turns into a nationally televised debate. This debate forces a re-examination of historical truths and exposes a century-old mystery that can change the definition of history.

Produced by Nikhil Nanda under the banner of ‘Nikhil Nanda Motion Pictures’, the co-producers of the film include Puneet Nanda, Dr. Deepak Singh and others. The story, screenplay and dialogues of the film have been written by Utkarsh Naithani. The music is composed by Monty Sharma and lyrics are written by Kumar Vishwas.

Director Warang has expressed his vision of bringing out hidden stories through a story based on honesty and human sensibilities. The change in the film’s release date reflects the growing interest in this bold historical-political drama, which aims to engage audiences in a dialogue about India’s past and present.
