IMD issues ‘Yellow Alert’ for April 7-8 – Obnews

It rained in parts of Delhi-NCR on the morning of Tuesday, April 7, 2026, providing temporary relief from rising temperatures. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued **Yellow Alert** for April 7 and 8, warning of strong winds, cloudy sky, rain, isolated thunderstorms and lightning. Due to an active Western Disturbance, one or two short spells of rain or thundershowers are likely during this period. Due to this disturbance, strong winds are expected and minimum temperatures will drop by 2–3°C, resulting in cooler morning and evening weather. On April 6, the minimum temperature was 21°C and the maximum temperature was 33°C. For April 7, the IMD has predicted the minimum temperature to be around 20°C and the maximum temperature to be around 31°C. On April 8, the minimum temperature may drop to around 18°C, while the maximum temperature will remain around 31°C. The sky is likely to be partly cloudy on April 9, which will clear on April 10 and 11; After this, the maximum temperature of the day may gradually increase to 33–34°C or more.

Delhi’s air quality remained in the **moderate** category on Tuesday, with a total AQI of 134. It is likely to remain in the moderate category till April 9. The readings recorded at different stations on Monday included Anand Vihar (212), Ashok Vihar (118), Bawana (143), Chandni Chowk (110) and RK Puram (134). In nearby areas like Ghaziabad, AQI levels ranged between 149 to 167 at some stations.

As per CPCB standards, an AQI of 101–200 is categorized as ‘moderate’, 201–300 as ‘poor’, and higher categories indicate deteriorating conditions. Residents are advised to stay updated with IMD bulletins, especially regarding thunderstorms and high winds. This current round of weather provides a brief respite before temperatures rise again, which will begin rising again later this week.
