Ceiling collapses at Southeast Asia’s fourth largest airport after heavy rain

Multiple inbound flights were rerouted due to severe weather and shifting wind conditions.

An official of the airport said the disruption lasted about five minutes, The Straits Times reported.

Airport staff promptly cleaned and secured the affected area to prevent any impact on flight services.

No injuries were reported.

Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, which serves the Jakarta metropolitan area and is one of the busiest airports in Southeast Asia, is frequently impacted by extreme weather, especially during the rainy season, Vietnam News Agency reported.

Covering approximately 1,800 hectares, it was the fourth largest airport in Southeast Asia by land area after Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia, Suvarnabhumi Airport in Thailand, and Clark International Airport in the Philippines.
