New Delhi: Amidst the ongoing tension in West Asia (Mid East) and obstructions in sea routes, the Indian government has given a big relief news for crores of migrant laborers of the country. The Central Government has taken a big step to ensure that even in difficult circumstances, the stoves in the houses of the workers remain burning and they do not face shortage of cooking gas.

Government’s big decision: Supply of ‘Chhotu’ cylinder now doubles

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has issued an important order on Monday. Under this, the daily supply of 5 kg ‘Free Trade LPG’ (FTL) cylinders, fondly called ‘Chhotu’ cylinders, given to the states, has now been doubled. The main goal of the government is to provide easy access to fuel to people changing cities or working as daily wage labourers.

Sales figures broke all records

In the last few days, there has been a tremendous surge in the demand for these small cylinders. Talking about the figures, while only 37,000 cylinders were sold on March 25, by April 4 this figure had increased to beyond 90,000. Since March 23, about 6.6 lakh 5 kg cylinders have been sold in different states. The government hopes that after this new decision the daily sales will cross 1 lakh units.

How will the benefits reach the workers?

These cylinders will be made available directly through the state governments and their food and civil supplies departments. Oil companies (OMCs) will help in this so that the gas reaches the needy directly without middlemen. For this, oil companies have so far organized more than 550 awareness camps in 25 states and union territories, so that workers can get complete information about this scheme.

India’s ‘powerful’ preparations amid global tension

The ongoing geopolitical tensions around the world, especially the blockage in routes like the Strait of Hormuz, have adversely affected the global supply chain of LPG. India imports 60% of its LPG requirement from West Asia. But the government has made concrete arrangements for this. India has now increased its domestic LPG production to 46,000-47,000 tonnes per day. Apart from this, supply of 8 lakh tonnes of LPG has been confirmed from countries like Russia, America and Australia so that there is no shortage of gas in hospitals and homes.
