According to the report of News18, Dr. Geeta Billa, who is the Director of the Department of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Dr. L.H. Hiranandani Hospital, Mumbai, says that in her experience, most of the patients who suffer from acidity or GERD for a long time often skip breakfast. Some people depend only on coffee in the morning, while some do intermittent fasting without doctor’s advice. Due to this, the stomach remains under constant pressure and the problem increases.

Why is breakfast most important?

Breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day because it balances the acids formed overnight. Even while we sleep, the stomach keeps producing small amounts of acid. In such a situation, it is important to have breakfast within 60 to 90 minutes of waking up, so that excess acid can be controlled and the digestive system works properly.

How to choose breakfast?

Choosing the right breakfast is equally important. Fiber-rich foods like oats, bananas and whole grains protect the stomach lining and slow down the process of acid formation. At the same time, consuming spicy food, sour juice or gas drinks on an empty stomach can worsen the problem.

It is very important for us to consider breakfast as a medicine and not as an option. Even if you don’t feel very hungry in the morning, you should still eat something light, like banana or curd and rice. Acidity is not just a small problem. If it is ignored, it can further lead to inflammation, ulcers and other serious diseases in the food pipe.
