The army removed the thick blanket of snow by lowering ‘ice cutter’ machines on the road along Dongkia-la in North Sikkim. Work is underway to bring down tourists stranded at Lachen to Gangtok. According to Mangan district administration sources, those tourists are being dropped through Dongkia-La, Shiv Mandir, Zero Point, Yumthang, Lachung. The Chungthang-Lachen road in Taramchu was cut off by a landslide in the early hours of Sunday morning. Eight hundred tourists were stuck there. They were stuck in Lachen for more than two days. Due to the collapse of the road, a temporary bamboo bridge has been constructed to bring down the tourists.

Desperate, the Sikkim administration plans to construct a temporary bamboo bridge at Taramchu to rescue tourists stranded in Lachen in North Sikkim.
