Rabkavi-Banhatti: A couple died by suicide on Wednesday (April 8) morning within the limits of Banahatti Police Station in Bagalkot district.
The deceased have been identified as Karthik Nayak (20) of nearby Asangi village and Pavitra Vanti (19) of KHDC Colony in Banahatti.
On Tuesday evening, Karthik had gone to Pavitra’s house and created a dispute over several issues. The girl’s family had then warned that they would file a complaint with the police. Later, talks for a settlement were also held from Karthik’s side.
On Wednesday morning, while Pavitra was engaged in her daily routine, she received a phone call. Around 7.30 am, she went into the kitchen and died by hanging.
After learning about Pavitra’s death, Karthik also died by suicide by hanging himself from a tree near Saraswati garden between Asangi and Aski villages.
On receiving information, Banahatti PSI Sanjay Dharigonda visited the spot and conducted an inspection. A case has been registered at the local police station based on complaints from both families, and further investigation is underway.
