Team India Triumphs Over New Zealand in Billie Jean King Cup

In their second match of the Billie Jean King Cup Group I - Asia/Oceania, Team India secured a convincing victory against New Zealand, thanks to straight-set wins from Vaishnavi Adkar and Sahaja Yamalapalli. This win came shortly after their loss to Thailand at the Delhi Lawn Tennis Association Complex.


Vaishnavi Adkar, making her debut in the BJK Cup, showcased her skills by defeating Aishi Das of New Zealand with a score of 6-2, 6-4. Following her, Yamalapalli clinched the match with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory over Valentina Ivanov. Rutuja Bhosale and Ankita Raina were set to compete against Monique Barry and Erin Routcliffe to conclude the tie, as reported by the DLTA.


Adkar started strong, breaking Das early to take a 2-0 lead in the first singles match of Day 2. She maintained her momentum, breaking again in the fifth game and closing the first set decisively at 6-2.


In the second set, Adkar continued her aggressive play, although Das managed to level the score at 4-4. However, Adkar responded by breaking decisively and serving out the match in an hour and a half.


Yamalapalli displayed even greater dominance against Ivanov, winning the first set 6-1 with three breaks of serve. She continued to control the match in the second set, ultimately winning 6-3.


At the time of reporting, Bhosale and Raina were engaged in doubles action.


Other Group I Matches

In other matches, the Republic of Korea maintained their unbeaten streak with a solid victory over Thailand, where Daehyon Back and Sohyun Park excelled in singles. Indonesia also topped the table with a commanding 3-0 win against Mongolia, highlighted by Aldila Sutjiadi's impressive double bagel victory over Anu-Vjin Gantor, finishing 6-0, 6-0. Anjali Kirana Junarto then secured the tie in singles before teaming up with Meydiana Laviola Reinnamah to complete the day with another 6-0, 6-0 win in doubles.


All six teams are competing in a round-robin format until Saturday, with the top two teams advancing to the next round.
