Coronation Street viewers noticed a "spoiler" as an actor offered a peek into his future on the cobbles.

Carl Webster, portrayed by Jonathan Howard, is amongst the five potential victims destined to be killed off later this month. The soap recently unveiled a murder mystery storyline as one character's time in Weatherfield will reach a dramatic conclusion.

In a flash-forward sequence broadcast on screen earlier this year, audiences witnessed Betsy Swain questioned by the police following the discovery of a dead body of someone she knows. Megan Walsh, Theo Silverton, Maggie Driscoll, Jodie Ramsey and Carl Webster were revealed as each potentially having motive to be brutally murdered.

In the episodes building up to the shocking killing, audiences have been monitoring each and every character closely. Yet fans recently noticed a "spoiler" when actor Jonathan Howard posed for a photograph with his co-stars on set.

In a social media update from Wednesday, April 8, the Carl Webster star posted a selfie alongside Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall), Ronnie Bailey (Vinta Morgan) and Kevin Webster (Michael Le Vell).

He wrote: "Sun finally came out to say hello on the cobbles today...", reports the Liverpool Echo.

Though soap enthusiasts couldn't help but observe the actor is still recording on set, despite being at risk of being eliminated. Some audiences questioned whether this was an accidental spoiler as the actor revealed Carl's future on the cobbles. Taking to the comments section, one viewer remarked: "Well I'm guessing Carl doesn't die!! Spoiler alert lol". Another concurred and posted: "That was my first thought."

A third commented: "Ooo...Carl isn't the one who ends up dead on the 23rd then..." A fourth contributed: "Oooooo Carl doesn't die!" while a fifth stated: "He lives! Theo dies." A sixth soap enthusiast joined the discussion on Instagram: "Oh, so one less murder victim suspect. I'm pleased."

Nothing has been verified as yet, and the dramatic instalment which will unveil all is scheduled to broadcast on 23rd April.

Jonathan Howard, who originates from Lancashire, initially appeared on the cobbles as the charismatic yet calculating Carl Webster and has been at the heart of the drama ever since.

Jonathan's soap introduction marked the first occasion the character of Carl Webster featured on screen, seldom mentioned by Debbie and Kevin. It's reasonable to say he wasted little time in causing disruption.

It was lately disclosed that Debbie Webster is Carl's biological mother and not his sister, and the shocking revelation didn't sit well.

Coronation Street airs Monday to Friday at 8:30pm on ITV1 and ITVX
