Exciting Updates on Man of Tomorrow

The upcoming sequel to Superman, titled Man of Tomorrow, is set to introduce a new love interest and antagonist for the iconic superhero. As production gears up, there has been some uncertainty surrounding the character of Maxima. Initial reports indicated that Adria Arjona, Marisa Abela, and Ella Purnell were auditioning for the role. However, subsequent updates mentioned four additional finalists, with Arjona consistently being a key contender.

Who Will Portray Maxima?

As reported by a leading entertainment outlet, Adria Arjona, Eva De Dominici, Sydney Chandler, and Grace Van Patten are currently in contention for the role of Maxima. These actresses recently completed screen tests in Atlanta in preparation for the DC Studios sequel. Earlier, another source had suggested that alongside Arjona, Marisa Abela and Ella Purnell were also in the running.

However, writer-director James Gunn took to social media to clarify the situation, stating that while he is friends with Arjona, he has not met Abela or Purnell. Arjona appears to be a frontrunner, having previously collaborated with Gunn on Belko Experiment. The other actresses, including De Dominici from The Cleaning Lady, Chandler from Alien: Earth, and Van Patten from Tell Me Lies, remain in the mix.

Understanding Maxima's Character

Maxima, introduced in 1989 by writer Roger Stern and artist George Pérez, is an alien queen from Almerac who later joins the Justice League. She is portrayed as both a potential love interest and adversary for David Corenswet's Superman.

Details on Man of Tomorrow

In this sequel, Lex Luthor, played by Nicholas Hoult, teams up with Superman to confront Brainiac, portrayed by Lars Eidinger. The film will also feature returning actors such as Rachel Brosnahan, Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Isabela Merced, Guy Gardner, and Edi Gathegi. Aaron Pierre, who will star in the HBO series Lanterns, has a significant role as well. Brosnahan reprises her role as Lois Lane, Superman's current love interest.

Man of Tomorrow, which is both written and directed by Gunn, is scheduled for theatrical release on July 9, 2027. Prior to this, DC will debut Supergirl on June 26, 2026, featuring Milly Alcock as Clark Kent's cousin Kara, who will have a brief appearance in the film.
