Samsung Messages Discontinued: Smartphone market giant Samsung has announced an important change, giving a big shock to crores of its users. The company has made it clear that its popular Samsung Messages App will be completely discontinued from July 2026. That means, after this, users will have to use Google Messages to send and receive messages.
Why is Samsung Messages app being discontinued?
This messaging app of Samsung has been a part of Galaxy smartphones for a long time, but now the company is preparing to eliminate it completely. After July 2026, this app will stop working on most devices. Although limited use will be possible for emergency numbers or important contacts, the app will become almost useless for general messaging. This change will especially affect those smartphones which run on Android 12 or above. At the same time, this app will continue to run for some time in devices running Android 11 or below.
Why is Samsung moving towards Google Messages?
Actually, Samsung was gradually shifting its users towards Google’s messaging platform for the last few years. Now the company has fully implemented it. Google Messages app is already coming installed in new Galaxy smartphones and it is being set as the default messaging app.

If you use a Galaxy phone, you will have to download the Google Messages app before July 2026 and make it the default messaging app. By doing this, your SMS and MMS services will continue to run without any interruption and you will also get the benefit of new features.

It includes RCS (Rich Communication Services) support, so you can send high-quality photos and videos, have group chats, and see real-time typing indicators.
