Netflix has unveiled a "masterpiece" crime drama that fans are already hailing as the "best series of the year".

Crime drama enthusiasts are in for an absolute treat as Netflix has quietly introduced Bandi, an eight-part series that has garnered widespread acclaim as a Death in Paradise and Shameless crossover, despite only having been released this week.

The French-language drama, dubbed in English, follows the LaFleur family as 11 siblings suddenly find themselves orphaned following the unexpected death of their mother.

While some siblings struggle to determine the right course of action, Kingsley (played by Rodney Dijon) becomes convinced that theft is the most effective means of keeping his loved ones together.

Unbeknownst to him, his younger brother Kylan (Djody Grimeau) is a formidable up-and-coming drug lord operating under the alias Milord, who is equally determined to protect his family at all costs.

Bandi is filmed on the island of Martinique, situated not far from the fellow Caribbean-French island of Guadeloupe, where Death in Paradise is shot.

While the stunning backdrop draws comparisons to the beloved BBC cosy crime series, publications have also likened it to comedy-drama Shameless, as a sprawling group of siblings resort to whatever means necessary to survive, lawful or otherwise.

Netflix viewers have already begun binge-watching Bandi, with many clamouring for confirmation of a second series, which is yet to be announced.

"I smoked it all in one go", one user shared on X, while another remarked: "We're agreed there'll be a season two, right?" A second remarked: "I've changed my mind about Bandi in episode five!

"It's a f*****g masterpiece #bandi! Super congrats!"

Another user posted: "I just hope there'll be a season two", while a fellow viewer commented: "Series finished 8.5/10 just because we want the sequel!"

One enthusiastic fan exclaimed: "I've finished, I loved it, and I want a season 2, oh yes!"
