Salt intake and health effects
New Delhi, 11 April. Salt is used in the kitchen to enhance the taste of food, but its excessive consumption can be harmful to health. According to health experts, excessive salt consumption has negative effects on the internal organs of the body. When we increase the amount of sodium, it disturbs the water balance in the body. Its first effect is on blood pressure, which increases the pressure on the arteries of the heart, which can cause heart attack or stroke in future.
Increasing burden on kidneys and bones
The function of the kidney is to remove dirt and excess salt from the body. When sodium levels in the blood increase, the kidneys have to work harder. If this pressure persists for a long time, the risk of kidney failure increases. Moreover, excess salt is also harmful for bones, as it flushes out calcium from the body through urine, making bones weak and increasing the risk of fractures even with minor injuries.
Swelling and water accumulation in the body
Many people feel heaviness in their hands, legs or face when they wake up in the morning, which is a sign of water accumulation in the body. The main reason for this is excess salt in the diet. Reducing the amount of salt improves the body’s metabolism and provides relief from unnecessary swelling. Experts believe that the habit of sprinkling raw salt in food is the most harmful. Processed and packaged snacks also contain high amount of salt, which gradually harms health.
Small precautions, big relief
To stay healthy, it is necessary to make small changes in your habits. Use limited salt while cooking and avoid keeping a salt shaker on the table. Adding lemon juice instead of chaat masala and extra salt on fruits or salads is a better option. The less processed food you eat, the more balanced the sodium levels in your body will be. Remember, balance is the biggest secret of long life and healthy life.
