Chennai Super Kings wicketkeeper/batter Sanju Samson has scored his first century for his new franchise in Match 18 of IPL 2026 against the Delhi Capitals.

The CSK vs DC game is being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai, and saw the away team win the toss and decide to bowl first, which has become a trend this season.

Sanju was CSK’s star signing ahead of this season. Bought in via trade with the Rajasthan Royals, which saw Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran go the other way, the Super Kings’ faithful had big hopes for the Kerala native this year.

However, the 31-year-old got off to a poor start to the tournament. In the first three games he played for his new team this season, Samson made six, seven, and nine runs respectively and scored no boundaries.

However, the former RR captain came in with a different mindset against the Capitals today, as he hit a four in the first over of the game to Auqib Nabi. He then hit two more, Mukesh Kumar, in the second.

Sanju was carrying the CSK batting in the powerplay, with the other opener, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, playing second-fiddle. By the end of the fourth over, the score was 40/0, and Smason had made 30 off 12 with six boundaries under his belt.

The score at the end of the powerplay was 61/0, soon after which Ruturaj departed for 15 off 18.

Sanju Samson brought up his half-century in the ninth over, reaching the milestone in 26 deliveries. He, however, did not gear his innings down and kept dealing in fours and sixes.

Sanju, along with Ayush Mhatre, took CSK past the 100-run mark. This partnership was doing well in keeping the run rate around 10 rpo.

Mhatre too scored a 50 in today’s game, reaching his half-century in 27 balls. But the day belonged to Sanju Samson, who ramped up his innings in the 15th over.

Right towards the end of the 18th, Samson reached the three-digit mark with a four, making his century in 52 balls. On the next ball after reaching the milestone, he scored another boundary.

Not only did Sanju anchor the Chennai Super Kings’ innings today, but he also scored the majority of their runs. He ended his stint with the bat today not out at 115 off 56 and played a pivotal role in taking CSK to a respectable total of 212/2 at the end of their 20 overs.

This was Sanju Samson’s fourth century in the Indian Premier League. While the previous three came as part of the Rajasthan Royals, this is his first in the Super Kings yellow, and it took him only four games to get his first with his new team.
