Travelers from Malaysia and Thailand are among Asia’s most passionate culinary explorers, according to new findings from Agoda.
As many as 33% of Malaysian travelers cited food as a key motivation for travel, ranking them the fourth biggest food enthusiasts in Asia behind those from Taiwan, Vietnam and South Korea, based on a survey of 3,353 respondents across nine Asian markets.
Among Thai travelers, 20% prioritize food in their travel itineraries, ranking seventh.

Agoda’s survey results highlight culinary experiences have climbed into the top three motivators for Asian travelers, jumping from sixth place last year.
Malaysia ranked 29th in a list of 100 best cuisines in the world by international food magazine TasteAtlas last year, trailing behind Southeast Asian neighbors Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand.
Thai cuisine ranked 24th globally.
Thai cuisine is characterized by a balance of five key tastes — sweet, sour, salty, bitter and spicy, while Malaysian cuisine reflects a more diverse, multicultural blend shaped by Malay, Chinese and Indian influences.
